Top viewed article in the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering

The group’s paper has been recognised as a top viewed article by Wiley for 2025 in the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering. The work combines proper orthogonal decomposition with neural networks to replace expensive fluid dynamics simulations of brain aneurysm blood flow, achieving speed-ups of the order 10⁵ with over 97% accuracy. A novel two-stage POD reduction, rarely used in this setting, proved key to the model’s performance, opening the door to real-time, patient-specific assessment of aneurysm rupture risk and treatment outcomes.
